The ICCHV is excited to continue the Yvonne Sill School Participation Award & Trophy for the school with the highest student participation percentage, sponsored by Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union. The school with the highest student participation percentage will receive $250 and have the honor of displaying the Yvonne Sill trophy in their school. Ms. Sill was a local teacher and pillar in the community who passed from a sudden illness in 2018. ICCHV began the Yvonne Sill award for school participation in 2019.
Teacher, friend, beautiful soul. As a second and first grade teacher at George Washington Elementary School, Yvonne taught generations of Kingstonians to read, to tie their shoes and to be decent to one another. She would teach in Room 109 for 38 years. Her first six years in 2nd grade and the next 32 as a beloved 1st grade teacher. Yvonne was the longest serving teacher in George Washington Elementary School's history.
Proudly Irish, she was caring, thoughtful and never judgmental. She accepted people’s flaws, and she forgave their mistakes. Her capacity for giving to her family, to her friends, and to her community was limitless.
Yvonne also coached the Kingston High Girls Cross Country team from 1999-2009. She also assisted with indoor and outdoor track. She volunteered at nearly every local race for more than 30 years.
